COMMUNISM AND THE CHURCH (AUTHORITARIANISM IN THE CHURCH)

Now that there actually is something in the church as Authoritarianism, Well, it is COMMUNISM.

What is the essence of Authoritarianism? Well... I would say it is THREE-FOLD.

1. IT SUBJECTS THE MIND TO DOGMA

2. IT MAKES FEAR THE BASIS OF OBEDIENCE

3. IT DESTROYS THE FREEDOM OF THOUGHT

Now, the church is not supposed to hold these qualities, and indeed, the church is not based upon these qualities. If you can remember, our Lord Jesus, lived in the midst of Authoritarianism, the time when he moved among the people under the power of the Rome, Through the morals of the Pharisees as Authoritarians. Which made Godliness more of a system than a relationship with the spiritual dimension.

So, when Our Lord founded His church, Naturally, He made it a Bullock, against all forms of Authoritarianism. Notice how he even contrasted his church and what could be liked to communism, He said, “You know that among the Gentiles there are those who hear rules loaded over them and great men brought their power over them, with but you it must be otherwise, that whoever had a mind to be first among you, must be our slave.

How did our Lord save us from Authoritarianism? We are going to contrast here, three characteristics of communism with three characteristics of the church, first our blessed Lord Established a church, in which

1. WE DO NOT OBEY A SYSTEM, BUT A PERSON

2. IN THE CHURCH, THE BASIS OF OUR OBEDIENCE IS NOT FEAR BUT LOVE

3. IN THE CHURCH FREEDOM OF THOUGHT IS SAVED BY REVERENCE TO THE TRUTH

Now, we shall take this one by one for better understanding

1. DOGMA

In communism and any other form of authoritarian system, one has to submit to a system, that is to say, the very complicated network of assumptions, calls of directive and orders, which very often are very abstract.

But as Christians, we do not subscribe to a system of dogmas. We begin with the person Of Our Lord Jesus by understanding His mystical body (The Church) And we develop a personal relationship with him. What is faith? Faith is the meeting of two personalities, You and Our Lord. There is no adhesion to an abstract Dogma, But rather, A communion with a Person. Who can neither deceive nor be deceived.

For Authoritarian, it starts with a party line. Starts with our Lord who saith I am the truth, in other words, truth was identified with his personality. You remember when you were a child, what did you consider your home with, just some commands given by your father and mother. And that wasn’t love, it was love of their personalities. Our faith is therefore foremost In Christ. Who lives in his Mystical body the church. It is only secondarily in the explicit beliefs. If our blessed lord did not reveal them, we would not believe them. If we lost him, we will lose our beliefs, HE COMES FIRST. And everything else is secondary. There is no doctrine, no moral, no liturgy, no belief apart from him. He is the object of faith. Not a Dogma. For example, there is a Dogma, that when a young man is in love with a young girl he should give her a ring, and he becomes engaged to her, but, what is primary to that custom or dogma that he should give her a ring? Is it not the love of her person? That the young man falls in love with the person, and there the ring follows later. And that is the way it is with Christians. his church. We fall in love with the person of Christ first. Then the beliefs come later. So, what Happens quite often is that people first fall in love with the church, they subscribe to a system, a certain way of belief, a certain formal way of religion and then later assume to believe in Christ. That is not in order. The Person of Christ comes first, and from there we can now follow to where he leads us.

2. FEAR

It is true that every system of Authoritarianism, fear is the basis of obedience, but because in CHRISTIANITY we start with the person of Christ, the basis of Our OBEDIEBCE is not Fear, it is All Based on Love. That between our Lord and us, there is a bond of love, and these two are inseparable. And that is why Jesus could not give Peter the power to command the church, until he Said that he loves Him three times. The power to command the church comes from obedience to God. And that is what we as a church of Christ are supposed to do. Is to Submit to his love. Like the obedience of a son to a living father. We do not feel any distance between our Lord and us. As a pupil, becomes more and more attached to his teacher, the more he absorbs the truths of the teacher, and thus way we become more and more attached to Christ by the way we love him more, and also the more the truth of him We absorb. The more we know our Lord, the more we see the truth manifested in his church, the less we fear, and that is why scripture says “PERFECT LOVE CASTETH OUT FEAR”. The more his truth is ours, the more we love him.

3. FREEDOM OF THOUGHT

Authoritarianism destroys real freedom of thought. First, you must always make a distinction between, freedom from thought and freedom of thought. The devil pretty much convinced the world, that if you accept God’s truth, you are not free, intact that if you accept any truth, you are destroying your reason. He has convinced many souls in the world that any limitation that is out upon a reason, is a distraction of that reason. E.g. in the garden, He suggested to our first parents, that if they did not know evil, that God in some way was destroying their freedom. For him you were not really free until you know evil. In so many words, the devil was telling our first parents, that the purpose of God was to prevent freedom of enquiry. That God is intending to tiny human race with ignorance, do not be fools. that God is an old funny daddy, He does not want you to know the truth, be Liberal. Those were the words of Satan. So, God was made to appear as the enemy of Truth, Just the same way that a normal father might deny his son to have a gun, might be painted to deny him freedom. So, to the Devil, to be loyal to the Advice given to God was a mockery to freedom.

So, as we analyse this assumption of the devil, is it true, that the more you subscribe to divine truth the lesser you become?

What the world needs to know today, is that, freedom is A word that is most abused.

We want to be free of something only for the sake of something. This therefore shows us that freedom therefore is not LIBERATION from the truth, it is rather, the Acceptance of the truth. When are you really most free? When you know the truth about anything. For example, you are free to draw a triangle with a condition that you give it it’s precise shape, you are free to draw a giraffe, only if you can give it a long neck. If you do not obey the law of the truth then you will draw the wring shape of a triangle, and you will give a giraffe a short neck. And this you will find you are not free to draw a giraffe and a triangle. In same way, you are free to drive in the highway, on condition that you obey the traffic rules. You are free in the Law. You are free in truth. Now, that is what our Lord meant when he said “THE TRUTH WILL MAKE YOU FREE” Now Our truth therefore is a truth that is coming to us through Christ. And is a truth that is very noble, that when we stray away from it, we lose our way and become miserable.
