On The Guy on The Other Side
Confessions of a chronic third-wheel
I have always been on the other side; always yearning to see the grass acclaimed greener on the other rift.
I have always supported the other team. The losing one, never sure why maybe a rather unfortunate coincidence or a mere choice by fate to intertwine me and unluckiness. Take the movie Twilight, for example, I supported the wolf in his claim for Bella's affection as opposed to Edward, the pale vampire who lacks lustre. That unfortunate trend has been carried on to my life surprisingly reigning havoc on both my pay slip and love life.
Have you ever been the other guy? The one who waits for the girl opens the door for her, is there for her but she always slams the friend's title.
You soldier on with your new friends tag and continue being her knight and shining armour - too bad all your shiny armour is good at is showing her the reflection of boys she can be with, all who are extremities.
You believe by knowing her favourite colour, her best perfume, her goals and aspirations, her fears that she might bear a certain inclination to you. You wish that she may look your way at least even once, so that she may realize how you truly love her. You ask for half the chance she gives the dimwits who screw her over and over (quite literally and figuratively) but it seems all your shoulder is good for her tears when she has been left. But no one cares about your tears and how you feel.
You spend your days praying and nights fasting in the hope that you would be an embodiment of Fetty Wap's 'Baby won't you come my way' tune. But all she wants is Ethnics hit song New position but not with you.
You are her go-to guy, her best friend. You ask yourself whether she is ignorant of your feeling or doesn't feel the same way...Does she know? Hell yeah! But someone up there decided it is not meant to be.
For all the men on the other side of love, friend zoned, friends with benefits zoned, the friend who buys me food zoned, the beer cum pizza guy zoned, don't worry. The famous rapper TI once said that life is an interesting journey. If you get a chance to pound, pound like you will never see the light of dawn. if you never oh well we lose some we get some, grab a beer, light it up, go for boxing classes, go biking, find whatever sets your soul on fire. It was her loss anyway. Raincheck once you man up and leave, find a million-dollar toy, they always come back. It takes losing someone to know their worth.
Go ye and get out of the friend zone.
